Maine Science Festival
The Maine Science Festival, the first of its kind in Maine, is coming to Bangor March 15-18, 2018. A science festival is a celebration of science and technology, with the same kind of excitement and energy found at art and film festivals.
The MSF will offer Maine residents and visitors of all ages a diverse slate of activities to pique your curiosity, delight your senses, and underscore the notion that science is everywhere. Science in all its forms will be all around us, via hands-on activities, panel discussions, presentations, workshops and performances. The Maine Science Festival will show you that science is accessible, interactive, and fun!
The MSF will have a full-day of events, exhibits, hands-on activities, lectures, and facilitated discussions on Friday, at the Cross Insurance Center. The morning and afternoon events will be programmed with school field trips in mind, and open to all, due to the immense popularity of the first MSF. Starting on Friday afternoon and evening, there will be MSF events throughout Downtown Bangor, and in both locations throughout the weekend. As with the inaugural event, all MSF events other than the headliner, will be available free or charge to the public.
TICKETING INFO: Some MSF events will require signups, due to space limitations. Links to those signups will be available on the MSF website and FB event posts.

Understanding the Data
We've all heard the term, "data-driven culture," but what does it mean? Equal To is a company dedicated to teaching entrepreneurs and small business owners about what data means, why it's important, and how to integrate it into their organization to change the way it operates. Join Equal To's co-founder Kate MacDermott to more about what it takes to create a data-driven culture.
Brief Backstory
What Equal To is and how it was founded
Our mission - data education for early stage nonprofits and minority-owned startups. Making use of their data gives these organizations a leg up over larger, better funded organizations, and allows them to make smarter decisions on where to focus their limited time, energy, and funding.
Case Study: Equal To + Electric Girls
Data changed the path of the organization:
Made its decision-making process more efficient and less error prone
Proved that its mission (to help girls gain confidence in their STEM abilities) was indeed working (92% of girls felt confident in their ability to teach someone else about building circuits in a post-summer camp survey).
Flor regained time spent cleaning unorganized data and was able to put that time toward more in-depth data analysis, grant applications, and the fun part of Electric Girls: spending time with the kids.
Example
Walk through a generic example of how a young nonprofit or startup could harness its data, organize it, and draw valuable insights, i.e. tracking donations and donors. This includes a quick tutorial on how to use Microsoft Excel and Power BI for data cleaning, exploration, and visualization
Winter Solstice Cello Fest
